Team of how many million? Helen Clark Foundation webinar on reimagining NZ's population trends and connections to the world
The Helen Clark Foundation released a report recently on movements of New Zealanders during the pandemic. Many who would have left for working holidays and work in general abroad didn’t leave, and a number of long term members of the diaspora came home.
The report - NAU MAI | WELCOME HOME - looks at whether New Zealand is sufficiently welcoming to the returning diaspora (leaving aside the current constraints of the current MIQ system which will eventually resolve as COVID-19 vaccination levels in NZ rise and the border can be more open than it currently is), and how the country can retain and attract enough talent to drive its sustainable development.
Holly Walker, Deputy Director of the Foundation, led the work on the report, supported by WSP NZ. Holly will be discussing the report with Infometrics Principal Economist and Director Brad Olsen and WSP NZ Director Graeme Sharman in a webinar on Tuesday 5 October at 12 noon.
The report got a lot of media coverage when released: The Spinoff story covers the issues well.
