PMNCH, UNAIDS and GCDP Meetings in Geneva
My next stop in January was in Geneva to meet with colleagues at The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH), UNAIDS, and the Global Commission on Drug Policy (GCDP). I now chair the Board of PMNCH which advocates for the health and wellbeing of women, children, and adolescents who comprise two-thirds of the global population. Professor Michel Kazatchkine, a fellow member of GCDP, and I called on UNAID's new Executive Director, Winnie Byanyima, to discuss the need for harm reduction measures and better drug law to uphold the dignity and human rights of people who use drugs. This is also essential in the drive to end AIDS as a public health threat.
