Interested in hearing more about why cannabis should be legalised & regulated? New Zealanders have a once in a generation chance to achieve that at the referendum to be held at the time of the General Election on 17 October.

At 6.30 pm, Monday 31 August, tune in on @chloe.swarbrick Instagram Live where Chlöe Swarbrick and I will be discussing our reasons for voting yes to legalisation.

The case for yes takes into account the fact that cannabis is a commonly used drug which is significantly less dangerous than tobacco and alcohol which are both legal. With those, the state regulates and taxes, and provides health promotion messaging and health services. The same approach should be applied to cannabis. There is no point, and actually there is significant injustice, in criminalising the use, possession, and supply of cannabis. It’s better to put rules around its use, possession, and supply. Check out the NZ Drug Foundation “on our terms” website: https://onourterms.org.nz/… And see my previous Instagram Live chats with @thebuzzykiwi and @anna_willcox.

Don’t forget to check your enrolment for the elections on the Electoral Commission NZ website: https://vote.nz/en…/enrol-or-update/enrol-or-update-online/… Enrolment and address updating can be done online. If you are overseas, when advance voting begins, you will be able to download your voting papers, upload them when completed, and send them back online.

Don’t miss this once in 3 years chance to have your say on who governs New Zealand and the once in a generation chance to vote for legalising cannabis - and for the End of Life Choice Act which is also a referendum question.
