“This week in Lagos, Nigeria, I visited this remarkable Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative SCCWI which provides a home & rehabilitation for young boys & teens who have been street children. There are huge numbers of street children in the city, living up in very dangerous situations where they are abused & exploited. This home offers a fresh start. I visited with the head of UNICEF’s Lagos office, & am full of admiration for their work.” Helen Clark UNDP Administrator recalls in a Facebook post.

UNDP Administrator Helen Clark visited Street Child care and Welfare Initiative as part of her official visit to Nigeria in October 2011. In a message to Helen Clark, the Presdient/Project Manager of Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative, Comfort Alli said that it was a great honour to have the Administrator of United Nations Development Programme to visit the centre.

“The children have not stopped talking about you and all the other UNDP representatives that came to have a chat with them for over an hour. Its been a source of motivation. And today at Leadership talk organised with a partner NGO Keeping it Real Foundation (Mrs Bitebo GOGO), you will be the topic of discussion. This will inspire the children more because they saw you themselves”, Comfort All wrote.

Helen Clark was the 37th Prime Minister of New Zealand. As Prime Minister she served three consecutive terms from 1999 to 2008 and was the first woman elected at a general election as the Prime Minister, and was the fifth longest serving person to hold that office. She has been Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme the third-highest UN position, since 2009. (Wikipedia)
